28-Responding to Protestant Objections to the Papacy

The voice you just heard is from a video clip of Mike Winger. Mike is a Protestant Christian who doesn’t think that there’s evidence for the office of the pope or the papacy in the bible. He’s one among many thousands of other Protestant Christians who have similar views. But is it true that there is no evidence for the office of the pope in the bible? No, it’s not. There’s actually lots of evidence for the papacy, given the strong biblical evidence in favor of Peter’s leadership role in the Church. Although the word “pope” does not appear in the bible, neither does the word “trinity.” So, absence of the word “pope” in the bible does not equal absence of evidence for the papacy. The bottom line is that if the papacy is true, one ought to be Catholic. If it’s not true, one might as well be a bible alone Christian. In this episode, we’ll discuss some of the biblical evidence for the office of the pope as leader of the Church. To do that we’ll listen to some video clips from a few Protestant Christians and I’ll offer some comments as we go along. 26-Where is Purgatory in the Bible?

Hey everyone. Thanks for being here and listening to the show. The voice of the person you heard at the beginning is Mike Winger, a Protestant Christian. This episode discusses a video Mike Winger recorded on his YouTube channel. Mike seems to be a sincere Christian who loves Jesus and loves the Bible—so that’s great. I decided to respond to his video because some of the claims he makes are fairly common, and he has a large YouTube channel with over a million subscribers. In his video, he claims that the Catholic doctrine of purgatory is not found in the Bible, at least not in a sufficient way which allows for belief in purgatory. Throughout this episode, we’ll listen to some clips from Mike’s video, and I’ll offer some responses. I’ll also link to his video in the episode notes in case you want to watch it for yourself. If you like this content, please subscribe, and leave a review and some comments. 24-Responding to Wes Huff's Claims About Why He is Not Catholic

Recently Wes Huff made a YouTube video giving six reasons for why he remains a convictional Protestant and favors Protestantism over Catholicism. This episode interacts with his video, and explores one of the reasons Wes gave for why he favors Protestantism, which is his claim that scripture is the sole infallible authority on Christian faith and practice.
