The Durnion: The Master Mysterion, Swift Sword and Twain Mind (1 of 2)
On a lark, Kylon attacked the Master Mysterion; not a man (or woman, when one holds the title) you want to mess with. Sure, the attack was pretend, but Grifram is leader of the shrouded, mysterious order known as the Red Mysterions. The whole point of the Establishment, where Kylon and the Mysterions dwell, is to become a serious-minded elite warrior who will guard the Androvnan King. Grifram, a devout veteran, taps chief aids to seek out the Misneros boy. With wizard standing on one shoulder, earnest youth on the other, Grifram deliberates just how sinister he should get in his search for the errant lad This is the first half of a chapter-long story arch.
The Durnion: The Victor's Vault and Battle-Yard Magic
At the outset of The Durnion, our young hero Kylon, royal warrior in training, faces down towering foes. The two brutes have war hammers and enormous swords--and did I mention valid reasons for intense personal rage against our witty protagonist? Idiosyncratic writer Robert R. Davidson has delivered the first episode of The Durnion, tales of magic, melee, and mythos. The high-fantasy world of Durne is encyclopedically stocked with rich renditions of the fantasy mainstays. The durnion has wizards, warriors, arcane languages, and enough historic lore to last until the next Convergence. Most of all, it's got tales that are absolute page-turners, including a polyphonic array of characters given lively, distinct voice. Kylon, who is as irresponsible as he is secretly noble, gets sucked into an unlikely mystery quest; so enter the durnion for tantalizing adventure and magic. You'll stay for the sound effects and voice-acting pizazz!
The Durnion: a Friend Mysterious; but First, a Foe
As Kylon slips from the ageless stone bosom of the Red Keep, his friends and fellow Mysterions become his foes. Kylon's drive is to meet the mysterious friend, issuer of the encrypted call he heard during his battleyard brawl. His mission pulls him out beyond the odd-bricked monument in which he lives, where Anamorith, the City in the River, bustles with life. We learn that Androvna the kingdom is beset by dark, inimical species, such as the drau, even if allied powerfully with friends such as the south elves. In this politically charged land, Kylon braves bleak streets and obscure and tortuous forest paths because a friend need aid.
