The Early Sessions
Session 425: Time, Probabilities, and Cosmic "Big Brother" Vibes Welcome to a deep dive into the cosmic archives. We are looking at Session 425 from The Early Sessions, Book 9 of the Seth Material, recorded on July 31, 1968. This session is a total trip, featuring Jane Roberts (Ruburt) speaking for Seth at a "rather rapid rate" while dropping some heavy knowledge on why your wristwatch is basically a decorative illusion. The Time Illusion and the "Spacious Present" Seth wastes no time getting into the meat of the matter: our obsession with linear time. Apparently, the ego loves a good sequence because it gives it a sense of security, but for personalities outside our physical system, things are way more "loosey-goosey." * Memory vs. Association: While we rely on memory of the past to feel like a coherent person, other "personality gestalts" operate through associative processes and offshoots. * The Measurement of Time: In the Seth universe, time can only be measured through experience. Outside our system, the "spacious present" is the real deal. * The Non-Linear Reality: Seth points out that birth and death are just markers for those of us stuck in physical gear. If you can change form at will, "timing" becomes meaningless. * A Mind-Bending Quote: Seth notes, "It is equally true to say that your deaths from this life are already accomplished, as it is to say that you have not yet been born in this life." All That Is: The Ultimate "Work in Progress" Forget the idea of a static, perfect deity. Seth explains that "All That Is" is actually evolving and straining to be even more. It’s a creative expansion where no one—not even the big guy—has all the "cut and dried" answers yet. * Probable Actions: Every time you make a decision, a probable version of you takes the alternative route. You are literally living out every conceivable action across infinite systems. * Identity Retention: Despite this complexity, no particle of individuality is ever lost. You eventually get to look back at all these "roles" and learn from the whole variety show of your existences. The "Big Brother" Dynamic Rob (the recorder) had a funny thought during a break about whether a "larger" version of Seth was listening in. Seth’s response was classic: he calls this larger entity his "Big Brother." * All-Access Pass: This "Big Brother" doesn't need to tune in live because the session exists in all time simultaneously. He can just "pick it up" whenever he wants. * The Merging Goal: Seth explains that when he finally knows everything his "Big Brother" knows, they’ll basically merge, and the version of Seth we know will be "symbolically gone." Dreams, Assassins, and Helping the Deceased The session also touches on some personal psychic heavy lifting. * The Astral Helper: Jane had a dream experience helping a deceased neighbor, Miss Callahan, realize she had passed away. Seth confirms this was a "legitimate experience." * The Dream Assassin: Rob had a dream where he was stabbed in the back by a version of himself. Seth clarifies this wasn't a horror movie plot but a symbolic ritual to release "negative inferences" from Rob's early life. Slaying the assassin was actually a win for emotional freedom. * Animal Intuition: Even animals get a shout-out for being way more chill about time than humans. They experience the past and future within the context of the present without the stress.
