Thereafter, as twilight falls and the lagoon lies becalmed, a ghostly encounter with mysterious canoes preludes their landing on the Isle of Cripples, where the textures of strange social custom and curious companionship with a sagacious chimpanzee unfold under King Media’s watchful, dreaming eye.
