You do not want to miss this show! “Juliet Haarbauer-Krupa, PhD, was a Senior Health Scientist on the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Team in the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention (DUIP) at the Injury Center. As a behavioral scientist, her role on the TBI team was to devise research projects and products to better understand trends in TBI in the US and to improve health outcomes for individuals living with a TBI. She was project lead on the Report to Congress on the Management of Traumatic Brain Injury in Children and the Return to School Projects in the division. Recent publications report on life expectancy and unemployment outcomes for moderate to severe TBI, stroke and TBI, PTSD in adults with mild TBI, point of healthcare entry for children with concussions, talking to young children about concussions, improving clinical practice for concussion diagnosis, and service delivery systems for children with TBI. Dr. Haarbauer-Krupa has 30 years of experience and has authored over 20 publications and presentations in the area of traumatic brain injury with specialties in rehabilitation and pediatric populations. He served as co-chair of the Aspen Workgroup which established the diagnostic criteria for the minimally conscious state (MCS) and currently chairs the DoC Guideline Development Panel, co-sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology, American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research. Brenner, Ph.D., is a Board-Certified Rehabilitation Psychologist, and a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, and Neurology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Brenner is a Senior Clinical Investigator at the Department of Veterans Affairs Rocky Mountain Regional Medical Center. She co-leads the VA Brain Health Coordinating Center (BHCC) and the Military and Veteran Microbiome Consortium for Research and Education (MVM CoRE). She is the past Chair of the International Brain Injury Association and a past President of Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as an APA Fellow. She serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation. Dr. Brenner is a leading expert in the field of traumatic brain injury and comorbid psychiatric disorders. She has over 250 peer-reviewed publications, participates on national advisory boards, and has co-authored a book titled: Suicide Prevention After Neurodisability: An Evidence-Informed Approach.
