Kuvaus

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.  Dr. Elizabeth King and Yvonne Haase, both psychotherapists, are on a mission to end the stigma associated with mental health.  Listen in with these experts to identify the difference between mental health and mental illness, some startling stats and facts and some tips to protect your mental health.  “The purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month is to raise awareness and educate the public about: mental illnesses, such as the 18.1% of Americans who suffer from depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder; the realities of living with these conditions; and strategies for attaining mental health and wellness.” - Wikipedia Mental health and mental illness are NOT the same thing.  Everyone has mental health, not everyone has a mental illness.  Our  mental health consists of our mental well-being, our emotions, our thoughts and feelings, our ability to solve problems, our resilience, our social connections, and our mindset regarding the world around us. A mental illness is an emotional illness that impacts and interferes with the way people think, feel, behave, or interact with others on a more consistent basis.
