Kuvaus

We are excited to share episode 3 in our series, where we ride the line between the brain and the mind with Dr. Joe Tham, a neuropsychiatrist trained at UBC. We discuss the unique demographic of patients that he sees, as well as the type of personal growth one experiences working with psychiatric patients. We touch on how COVID-19 may change how we do psychiatric care in the future. The host of this episode is Keenan Klassen. This series would not be possible without support from Dr. Clare Beasley (UBC) and the UBC Department of Psychiatry.

Episode 6 - Rural Psychiatry

"It's easier to work in a rural setting... relationships gets built up, you're not picking up the phone to talk to a stranger. That makes a whole difference. As a specialist, physicians are grateful to have you in this setting. You can really learn your population and develop your service as you would like." Episode 5 puts rural psychiatry in center stage, guided by Dr. Rosemary Abu, a General Adult Psychiatrist with a special interest in Old Age Psychiatry. She is currently practicing in Smithers, and completed her residency in Ireland. Dr. Abu thoughtfully reflects on the ups and downs of practicing psychiatry in a rural environment, and the unique challenges that it poses.  The host of this episode is Polly Ng. This series would not be possible without support from Dr. Clare Beasley (UBC) and the UBC Department of Psychiatry.

Episode 5 - Consultation Liaison

"You know when you've made a difference in a patient's life. And you know when you see them get better, when they stop coming back to you and you know they're living their life, looking after their children, going back to work. You know you've made a huge difference". In episode 4, Consultation Liaison,  Dr. Carole Richford guides us in a discussion that's as colourful as her own journey through psychiatry. With a  career that includes consultation-liaison, addictions, psycho-oncology, inpatient and outpatient, sub-specialty clinics, as well as teaching, Dr. Richford provides an informed perspective on the future of psychiatry and its current issues. (included: bonus tidbit for what she sees as a great psych candidate!) The host of this episode is Keenan Klassen. This series would not be possible without support from Dr. Clare Beasley (UBC) and the UBC Department of Psychiatry.
