The Victor Hugo Library
In which Jean Valjean, pursued and desperate, discovers a grim and forsaken building on the edges of the Rue Polonceau, its heavy iron bars and decaying walls offering both refuge and frustration in equal measure. As he seeks a means of concealment from prying eyes, he finds himself confronted by the deceptive façade of a door that conceals no entrance but a solid, impenetrable stone wall.
