Lasting Legacy: Trip Banks, ’76, and Ross Anderson, ‘79

Despite the Phi Sigma Epsilon fraternity closing its doors on the Hillsdale campus in the late 1980s, for more than 40 years the Phi Sigs continued to gather on their property on Hillsdale Street for Homecoming and other special events to reconnect, remember, and celebrate their friendships. In 2016, Phi Sig alumni came up with a pavilion idea and concept for their property. Partnering with the College, that plan was eventually finalized, and in 2024, the Phi Sig Alumni Pavilion was built and dedicated. Margaret Handel, ’17: Water World

Margaret Handel from the Class of 2017 graduated with a degree in economics. However, she was not looking for a 9-to-5 job. Hearing about the U.S. Merchant Marines while at Hillsdale, she decided to continue her education, graduating from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and becoming an officer in the Merchant Marines. Troy Weatherhead from the class of 2011 was known for his accuracy and leadership at quarterback for the Chargers. The former All-American and GLIAC Player of the Year is one of the newest members of Hillsdale College’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
