Turn Someday Into Today
There's something from your past you can't shake. A failure. A voice that said "who do you think you are?" A swing you took that didn't land. And somewhere along the way, quietly, without realizing it — you started letting that failure speak louder than God's voice. And that's exactly how burnout starts. In Part 3 of our series "Burnout Proof," Pastor Garrett follows Moses into one of the most relatable moments in all of Scripture: Exodus 2, where he sees an injustice, acts on his ambition immediately, gets it completely wrong, and spends the next 40 years hiding in the wilderness. The ambition was right. The application was wrong. And the failure became his identity. Moses didn't burn out because he stopped caring — he burned out because he started believing what one man's voice told him about who he was. But here's what changes everything. When God shows up at the burning bush and Moses argues back, God isn't arguing with Moses. He's arguing with the failure Moses adopted as truth. And He'll do the same for you. When failure becomes your identity, burnout becomes your destination. But it doesn't have to stay that way. In this message: why today's burnout is fueled by yesterday's unprocessed failure; Moses killing the Egyptian and what it teaches about ambition without formation; why ambition does not mean permission; why Midian was the hometown of burnout for Moses; the seeds of fear planted by one man's voice; a personal testimony about running from a God-given mission and being tracked down; and what you might be running away from right now. Scripture: Exodus 2:11–14 | Exodus 3:10–13 | Exodus 4:1, 10, 13. — Axess Church exists to ignite passion for Jesus through risk-taking faith.
