Venture Church Sermons
This powerful exploration of Psalm 121 invites us into a deeply personal understanding of God's intimate care for each of us individually. The Psalms of Ascent were songs sung by worshipers as they journeyed upward to Jerusalem, both physically and spiritually, and this particular psalm reminds us that the Maker of heaven and earth has moved heaven and earth to bring us close. We're challenged to lift our eyes from the overwhelming problems right in front of us and refocus on the great I AM who never sleeps, never slumbers, and never loses sight of us. The repeated use of the word 'keeper' six times in eight verses emphasizes God's hypervigilant care—He stabilizes us, keeps us close enough to shade our right hand, covers us day and night, and preserves us not just for now but for all eternity. This isn't just corporate truth for all believers; it's intensely personal. When we read 'you' in this psalm, we're meant to insert our own name. God is intimately involved in every intricate detail of our lives, using even the messy, frustrating, and painful experiences to make us more like Christ and to shine His light into the darkness around us. The promise is clear: our souls are kept secure, our going out and coming in are protected, and we are held firmly in the hands of a God who will never let our foot be moved.
