Visions & Tones
Host Dr. T interviews Mrs. Monica Njoroge-Eaton, a Kenyan-born teacher and recipient of the 'New South Wales Multicultural Community Languages Teachers Medal', about her journey to Australia and her passion for teaching Kiswahili. Monica describes founding the Newcastle Kiswahili School in 2017, growing it to 40+ students across Newcastle and the Central Coast, creating resources and a student-published storybook, and working with the Community Language School Program and local communities. The episode highlights the role of language in preserving identity and belonging, the school’s community impact, teaching methods, challenges and future plans — and invites listeners to support or join the KiSwahili classes and/or undertaking other language lessons.
