May 30, 2026 — Today is National Hole In My Bucket Day, which somehow turned out to fit an episode full of people treating very dangerous situations with absolute seriousness. Today’s episode looks at the execution of Joan of Arc… Andrew Jackson surviving a duel before becoming president… and the chaotic, dust-covered insanity of the very first Indianapolis 500. A lot of today’s stories ended up becoming about belief: belief in honor, belief in identity, belief in competition, and belief in systems larger than yourself. Anyway… that’s what I ended up finding while working through May 30.

May 29, 2026 — Today is National Paperclip Day, which somehow ended up fitting a surprisingly reflective episode about the fragile systems holding entire worlds together. Today’s episode looks at the fall of Constantinople and the end of the Byzantine Empire… the solar eclipse experiment that helped confirm Einstein’s theory of relativity… and the strange internet-era panic surrounding the arrival of so-called “murder hornets” in 2020. Plus, the birthday of Bob Hope — the fast-talking entertainer who spent decades helping audiences and soldiers laugh through uncertain times. Plus, a correction involving John Wayne, whose actual birthday is May 26, 1907 — despite what a previous episode accidentally suggested. It’s interesting how often large societal shifts begin before most people fully realize the long-term consequences. Anyway… that’s what I ended up finding while working through May 26.
