As we continue in our series, Why Pray? We will look at how the Lord has been generous towards us. The more time we spend in the Word, the more we will learn God's character. Jesus’ heart is for His children and those who will follow Him. He is trustworthy and His Word is true. Christ cares for us deeply and we see that through all He has given us. Last week we kicked off our Advent series, Radiant, diving into the hope that Christ holds and the gift that is found in Jesus’ birth. The light that the coming of Jesus brings us is eternal, He offers us hope and joy. In Him, we can experience forever joy—that never dissipates, even in the difficult parts of life. Jesus fills us with joy by growing our family, bringing us to a table of celebration, and giving us forever joy. Life throws us a lot of different joys, many bring us happiness, but when the joy of receiving goes away what are we left with? What hope we have in Christ—the light of joy, we get everlasting joy that isn’t dependent on circumstance or temporary pleasures. We are beginning our Advent series, Radiant, unpacking how Christ holds the hope and light we desperately need. In the book of Isaiah, chapter 9, there are two promises within, that we will look at today. With Jesus, our gloom is overcome with glory and our darkness is overcome with light. We are promised transformation and freedom in Christ when we turn from our sinful ways. The light of Jesus is undeniable, it permeates every part of our lives and has the power to bring us out of depths of gloom. Join us this Christmas season as we jump into a new series. Today we continue in our message series in Galatians, Good News, diving into what it means to be free in Christ. Before we come to know Christ, we long to gratify our desires, our flesh. We live with internal passions to be fulfilled; every time we fulfill them, they grow. Once we have come to know Jesus and accepted Him as our savior, we learn that those in Christ have crucified their flesh along with their passions and desires. Yet, we still may experience these desires from our old life. So, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, Jesus points out a few steps we should take as we walk alongside Him. We must recognize that we have an inner struggle that goes towards fulfilling our flesh, we should acknowledge the fruit that is growing in our life and put our flesh to death in Christ Jesus. When we walk with the Spirit and crucify our flesh, we will see godly attributes growing in our lives like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Today we push forward in our study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, discovering more truths that shape our identity. As we live in the freedom of the Gospel, we see that the law is powerless. With Jesus sacrifice on the cross, He abolished the law and the need to work for or earn our salvation. Paul helps us see that the purpose of the law is because of our sin, until God sent Jesus Christ to be the full atonement for our sins. What a privilege that we can be free in Christ and have the promise of adoption of faith in Christ alone. We read what Paul exclaimed, “For in Jesus Christ you are all sons of God, through faith...heirs according to the promise.” Through faith in Christ, we are no longer slaves but sons and heirs of God.
