Acerca de Mishna Accomplished

Join Rabba Aliza Libman Baronofsky to study two mishnas per day. You'll hear about how Rabba Aliza learned all of the six orders of the mishna with each of her children in advance of their bnai mitzvah, two mishnas at a time. Mishna Accomplished begins on Sunday, April 19 with the first two mishnayot of tractate Rosh Hashana. New episodes will be published three times per week through Shavuot 5786.

S2E10: Women and minors in a rainy sukkah with Rabbi Sara Levy-Stevenson

Rabbi Sara Levy-Stevenson joins us to discuss Sukkah 2:8-9. We grapple with the exemption of women from the mitzvah of sitting in the sukkah and discuss the impact of rain on sitting in the sukkah. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.2.8?lang=bi]. I often oversimplify complicated halachic ideas due to time constraints. In the episode, I mention that some Sefardi women don’t say brachot on time-bound mitzvot like Sukkah. Practices vary widely, so I apologize if anyone doesn’t appreciate how quickly I summarized the idea. You can read more about the intricacies of this issue here: https://ph.yhb.org.il/en/category/03/03-02/#halacha8 [https://ph.yhb.org.il/en/category/03/03-02/#halacha8]  You can follow Mishna Accomplished on Instagram at @mishnaaccomplished [https://www.instagram.com/mishnaaccomplished] - only one “h” in “mishna”! S2E9: Learning mishna on the road (Sukkah 2:6-7)

How do you keep up your mishna routine when traveling? Today, we discuss how a daily learning schedule can be impacted when you are traveling, with or without your child. After we think through those potential challenges and deconstruct how they led to Tuesday’s technical difficulties, we study Sukkah 2:6-7. These two mishnas discuss rules that apply to eating in the sukkah. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.2.6?lang=bi]. S2E8: A casually recorded episode about eating casually (Sukkah 2:4-5)

Disclaimer: Today’s episode was recorded remotely from a hotel room in Yonkers. The sound quality is not up to our usual standards. We appreciate your forbearance.   Today’s episode covers Sukkah 2:4-5. These two mishnas start with one final rule about sukkah construction, then move to laws about eating in the sukkah. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.2.4?lang=bi]. S2E7: Ten Acceptable Sukkahs (Sukkah 2:2-3)

Today’s episode covers Sukkah 2:2-3. These two mishnas feature a bevy of out-of-the-ordinary sukkahs that are nonetheless acceptable for use. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.2.2?lang=bi].   I dedicate today’s episode to the memory of Lieutenant Nathan Baskind, z”l. Read about Lieutenant Baskind here: https://www.operationbenjamin.org/nathanbaskind [https://www.operationbenjamin.org/nathanbaskind]  May his memory be for a blessing, and may the Torah we can learn because of his sacrifice lead to an elevation of his soul.   You can follow Mishna Accomplished on Instagram at @mishnaaccomplished [https://www.instagram.com/mishnaaccomplished] - only one “h” in “mishna”! S2E6: How Pointy is your Sukkah? (Sukkah 1:11-2:1)

Today’s mishnas are jam-packed: We finish chapter 1 with pointy-topped sukkahs and reed mats. We start chapter 2 with a story about sleeping under the bed in the sukkah that dredges up some uncomfortable stuff. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.1.11?lang=bi].  Content warning: The mishna discusses all aspects of adult life. Today’s episode will briefly discuss sources of ritual impurity. Listener discretion is advised.  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking.
