S4.EP19 - Robert Treto, Sr. - Living Through Hurricane Beulah in 1967

One of the Rio Grande Valley’s major moments of history happened in September 1967: the infamously catastrophic Hurricane Beulah.  Robert Treto, Sr. was a teenager living in Harlingen, Texas - an area directly hit by the storm. Working in the Engineering department at a local hospital, he was tasked with helping keep the hospital running and keeping staff members safe.  Hurricane Beulah devastated large parts of Mexico, the Eastern Caribbean, and South Texas. It still is one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit South Texas on record and the force of its impact lives on in the memory of the locals who survived it. This week, we sat down with Rio Grande Valley author/documentary film maker Mr. Joshua Moroles to find out what he’s learned from his work investigating the water and air quality here in South Texas. He’s spent the last several years looking into the state of our infrastructure and the potential hazards locals are facing - and he’s written a book on his findings.
