50 First Dates with Chris HVMMINGBYRD
Last year I couldn't speak. After brain surgery, aphasia, and a long recovery journey, I found myself learning how to communicate all over again. In this episode I explore what happens when illness or injury forces us to become students of our own bodies. From learning about the brain and nervous system to understanding stress, advocacy, healing, and resilience, this reflection dives into the lessons that can only be learned through lived experience. Sharing thoughts on recovery, the Rat Park study, why environment matters, how stress impacts healing, and the communication tools that helped him find his voice again. Most importantly, this episode is a reminder that our hardest experiences can become opportunities to help others. Because sometimes the greatest education doesn't come from a classroom. It comes from surviving something you never thought you'd survive.
