Coping with Cancer Pain

Hello and welcome to this episode of A Cancer Conversation with the Georgia Cancer Center at Augusta University.If your pain management is not where you want it to be, don’t give up hope. Your pain can be managed. If one medication or pain management approach does not work, there is almost always another one to try. Today, we have two guests who will be sharing strategies to help cancer patients deal with the various painful effects of a cancer diagnosis and treatment plan.First, is Dr. Lauren Bigham. Dr. Bigham is the director of the Georgia Cancer Center’s Psycho-Social Oncology program. Joining her is Dr. Egidio Del Fabbro. Dr. Del Fabbro is a professor in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, as well as the director of Palliative Medicine at the Georgia Cancer Center. In this episode of A Cancer Conversation, you will meet a woman who learned she had breast cancer in a very unusual way after she agreed to undergo a mammogram just to help out a physician colleague. But what that colleague found changed her life forever. Now, Erin Chrisco is sharing her story to encourage people to make sure they are not skipping their next mammogram appointment.

c-CARE II Program

The “Impacting Cancer Health Disparities and Facilitating Cancer Health Equity in Breast, Multiple Myeloma, and Prostate Cancers in Underserved and Minority Populations: The cancer-Community Awareness Access Research & Education II (c-CARE II) Initiative” team is located at the Medical College of Georgia’s main campus in Augusta, GA (Richmond County) and is led by Dr. Martha Tingen. The Study is a collaboration with the Georgia Cancer Center. The c-CARE project framework was originally introduced in 2015, and utilizes the “train the trainer” method to deliver culturally-tailored educational intervention sessions at various community sites.
