Descripción

The role of obedience and submission to the rules of God has often been neglected in the Protestant church who want to emphasis God's love and grace. And while we do well to champion the biblical teaching of salvation by grace alone and faith alone, we do poorly to forget our call to a transformed life. This the Reformers never intended us to do. Neither did Christ, Paul, nor Peter. In this episode, we take a gander through the NT to see how Jesus and his apostles thought about grace, obedience, and Christian living. Turns out grace and rules aren't enemies. They are best buds.

The Self-Love Gospel

Our culture tends to think that our biggest problem today is lack of self-love, care, and appreciation. We believe we need to be affirmed and if not, we cannot be happy. And since others don't affirm us enough, society is now telling you to affirm yourself! That's the key to a happy life. It seems some Christians have taken this need for affirmation and smuggled it into the Gospel message. Their creed is "You are loved. You are worthy. You are beautiful. God says so." So they find their affirmative needs met in God. It's a Christian version of the secular belief in our need for affirmation. It is the self-love Gospel...But is that what the Gospel is about? What if we listened to the Bible to tell us what we need instead of our favorite celebrity? And what if we let the Gospel be about transforming us instead of affirming us?
