In this (maybe) last episode of the year, I share my thoughts and reflections following the 2020 election. It's not enough to place a band-aid on a gaping wound. Real, radical change has never occurred by standing in line waiting to vote. If we truly want to see world where millions of people don't have to struggle on a daily basis to survive, we can't demand it any more from our politicians. We have to make the change happen, whether they assist or resist. Charismatic, devoted, and eager to share the gospel - those words can be used to describe Evangelical Christians in America. 1 in 4 Christians identify themselves as an Evangelical Christian in the world, but how do we measure the quality of good works done in the name of God and Christianity when it has been co-opted and hijacked by self-serving, privileged, right-leaning political officials? In this episode, I give a history of Evangelical Christianity in America, including sharing some of my own moments that I remember growing up in the Assemblies of God denomination of Evangelical Christianity. They believe they are unique members of Christianity who spend more time looking for biblical passages to that only reinforce their own morality and way of life, putting the Bible before truth and reason. Have you ever wondered why some people seem a little more spiritually advanced in their faith? Based on the work of James Fowler, everyone is at a different level of faith and we all develop into different stages at our own pace. Some people remain at one stage their whole life while never advancing to the next while others are able to make it all the way to the final universalizing stage. In this episode, I take you through Fowler's six stages and compare them to philosopher Ken Wilbur's color-coded spiral dynamics of collective human development. I also weave in some of my own personal story as I recall where I was when I grew in and out of each stage of my own personal faith. Today's episode is in response to a video I posted on my TikTok last week concerning the different gods and differentiation between the god of the Old Testament and the god of the New Testament. The Old Testament would have many readers believe that Israel was a strict, monotheistic group of people who were determined to set themselves apart from surrounding Canaanite, polytheistic-practicing tribes. But monotheism 1) is not something that arose from these people, and 2) extends much farther back than the Babylonian Exile, which is where we see a strong push for the Yahweh-Alone movement. In this episode of Anne's Archism, I examine the One True Way fallacy of Christianity and dig deeper into the roots of Christian beliefs, rituals, and how a lot of what the religion was built on was borrowed from surrounding pagan religions. Is the virgin birth strictly a Christian narrative? Do we attribute feelings of merriment and glad-tidings to the celebration of the arrival of Christ on earth? Or were those being practiced by non-Christians long before the birth of Jesus?
