AP MED
In this episode, Andrew Poveda sits down with Dr. Ricardo Correa Marquez, Program Director and Clinical Professor of Endocrinology at Cleveland Clinic/Case Western Reserve University, to talk about his journey in medicine, medical education, mentorship, and what it truly takes to train the next generation of physicians. Born and raised in Panama and a graduate of the University of Panama, Dr. Correa Marquez took the international medical graduate (IMG) path to practicing medicine in the United States; and has since become one of the leading voices in academic medicine and medical education. He previously served as Chair of the IMG Section of the American Medical Association (AMA) and currently serves on the AMA Council on Medical Education. Dr. Correa Marquez shares his experience building pathway programs for middle school, high school, and college students from underrepresented backgrounds during his time at the University of Arizona, and how that work shaped his philosophy on mentorship in medicine. We also dive deep into how medical schools are leveraging technology like Qooper to modernize mentorship matching, and what that means for the future of medical training. Whether you're a pre-med, medical student, or aspiring physician, this episode is packed with insight on mentorship, residency training, and navigating a career in academic medicine.
