Descripción

These are the rest of the responses to the concerns we received! Shoutout to Kate for writing & reading responses in lieu of the regular advice column team. We didn't have enough time at the end of the year so everyone in the team could finish working on all of this....but no worries. Kate to the rescue!! Some of her responses are actually very relatable and funny in a really witty way. This marks the end of round one of our advice column, and we'll continue on this coming year :))

Poetry with Zander: "Snakeskin Boots"...and some talk about boosting mental health through writing

Some of you might hear the word poetry and immediately go to that stereotypical voice convincing you poetry is all bore and no use for anything. Zander is the first person who convinced me otherwise on his first interview. He started with sharing his second piece of poem called "Snakeskin Boots," which has an interesting story behind it, but we ended up talking about how writing could be an outlet in which one could use to express emotions and deal with mental health. This is one of the most in-depth conversation I've collected since starting this podcast, and I appreciate Zander's honesty and his stories. This is the last of this poetry series of the 2022-2023 school year, and we'll come back with more pieces of writing in the coming year. Stay tuned!

"The Best Part of Being a Junior is Not Being a Junior Anymore" -Ethan Ku

Junior year is known for all kinds of things: the privilege of being an upperclassman without having to deal with college applications yet, friends, etc...but also, horrifying rumors follow about being a junior: the nightmarish SATs, ACTs, APs, and starting to think about what college/ future after high school. I laughed the most listening to Ethan's episode, especially the last segment. He reflects back on junior year, summer plans, etc, but his last quote was the most iconic: "the best part of being a junior is not being a junior anymore." Being a rising senior myself, I could totally agree. There are definitely fun parts of being a junior, but it is true there are really some icks and yucky stuff that hits you in the head in the year. But then again, isn't that life?
