Spurned by a sixteen-year-old girl, Edward Leedskalnin set out to prove to her and indeed the world that he had greatness inside of him, and boy oh boy, did he succeed. Over 28 years he built the coral castle, “an engineering marvel that has been compared with Stonehenge and the great pyramids of Giza.” It’s website claims that it “has baffled scientists, engineers and scholars since its opening in 1923.” It also inspired a song by Rock Legend Billy Idol. This week on brillyant I take a look at the (not really) Coral Castle and its eccentric builder.
