Welcome to our next cryptid origin story. The origin of the Chupacabra is really recent in the grand scheme of things. The first alleged sighting or encounter was in March of 1995 where 8 sheep were discovered dead. After that, other mysterious livestock deaths were attributed to the same creature. The coining of the term "chupacabra" is credited to the Puerto Rican comedian and radio personality Silverio Pérez, who used the label during a broadcast in 1995 while commenting on the livestock deaths. Saint Walpurga is characterized by her perceived efficacy against the forces of pests, rabies, whooping cough, and those wicked witches who roam the lands. Plus, those dirty pagans happened to have a celebration at that same exact time of year that just needed to be swept away.
