Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. The substance of the ocean isn't the surface of the ocean. The surface is just the top of it. Forgiveness after deep hurt and trauma — Jesus said forgive 77 times (Matthew 18:21-22) but what does that actually look like when someone did something horrible to you and you're still carrying it years later?I was worshiping, praying, trying to figure out which decision to make — A, B, C, all of it — and the Holy Spirit whispered: if you're in me, if you're with me, you cannot be in fear. The moment I heard it I was flooded with peace. God is not the author of confusion, and he's not the author of your stress either. 1 John 4:18 says there is no fear in love. Perfect, complete, full-grown love drives out fear — and Jesus IS that love. Fear involves the expectation of punishment, so if you're afraid, you haven't yet grown into a sufficient understanding of what God's love for you actually is. Put all the energy you're using to imagine a thousand different outcomes into being with Jesus instead. You can't be in fear when you're with him.
