Christ our Refuge
Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 3 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 6:22-71 -- Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life", in John 6, and the crowd that wanted bread walks away. Why? Because we live in the overlap of two ages, and Jesus is offering bread that the world doesn't recognise. The old age of decay continues; the new age has begun in Christ. We need daily bread for one, and eternal bread for the other. Religion says do, do, do. Jesus says the work of God is to believe in the one he has sent. He gave his flesh on the cross so that all who come to him, believe in him, and feast on him will be raised imperishable on the last day. So what are you really hungry for? And what bread are you living on? When others walked away, Peter spoke for the Twelve: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." There is nowhere else to go; only Jesus is the bread of life. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ.
