Descripción

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 3 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 6:22-71 -- Jesus declares, "I am the bread of life", in John 6, and the crowd that wanted bread walks away. Why? Because we live in the overlap of two ages, and Jesus is offering bread that the world doesn't recognise. The old age of decay continues; the new age has begun in Christ. We need daily bread for one, and eternal bread for the other. Religion says do, do, do. Jesus says the work of God is to believe in the one he has sent. He gave his flesh on the cross so that all who come to him, believe in him, and feast on him will be raised imperishable on the last day. So what are you really hungry for? And what bread are you living on? When others walked away, Peter spoke for the Twelve: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." There is nowhere else to go; only Jesus is the bread of life. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Door — John 10 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 31 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 10 -- Over a quarter of Australians no longer feel the world is a safe place. Most of us are carrying a quieter version of the same question: am I actually safe? In John 10, Jesus says: I am the door of the sheep. Not a door. The door. Jesus didn't just point to a door. He became the door — with his own body. The cross is the threshold. His death is what opens it. And once you're through, you're held. No one can snatch you from the Son's hand. No one from the Father's hand. True safety is not the absence of danger — it's the presence of the one who holds all things and holds you. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. The Power of Pentecost — Acts 2:1-13 | Mitchell Eidse

Series: Stand Alone Date: 24 May 2026 Preacher: Pastor Mitchell Eidse (from End Church, Brisbane) Scripture: Acts 2:1-13 -- Pentecost was God's answer to an impossible mission. Using the geography of Acts 1:8 as a guide, Pastor Mitch traces three works of the Spirit that turned fearful fishermen into the front edge of a global movement: the Spirit fills, bringing God's presence to dwell in every believer; the Spirit spreads, crossing cultural and linguistic barriers to reverse the curse of Babel; and the Spirit sends, extending that 2,000-year chain of witness to us, here, now. The Great Commission was never meant to be fulfilled in human strength. The same Spirit poured out at Pentecost is the power available to every Christian today — including in Brisbane, which is, quietly but measurably, becoming spiritually curious again. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Good Shepherd — John 10:1-18 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 17 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 10:1-18 -- Jesus's declaration "I am the good shepherd" (John 10:11) lands in the aftermath of John 9, where the Pharisees, the so-called shepherds of Israel, have just cast out a man Jesus healed of blindness. Ezekiel 34 forms the backdrop: God's promise to come himself as shepherd, and to send a Davidic shepherd-king. In Jesus, both promises collapse into one person. He's the God who came, the Shepherd God sent. Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise asks the question every human eventually asks: Who's got your back? Jesus answers it in two ways. He knows your name, with the same intimate knowing the Father has of the Son. And he rescues you. The Shepherd becomes a sheep, the Lamb of God who lays down his life and takes it up again. The good shepherd stands between his sheep and the wolf, willingly dies in their place, and rises to lead his flock through the deepest valley. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ. JESUS IS… The Light of the World — John 8:12-20 | Dave Miers

Series: JESUS IS… who he says he is. A series in the “I AM” statements in John’s Gospel. Date: 10 May 2026 Preacher: Rev Dave Miers Scripture: John 8:12-20 -- Jesus's declaration "I am the light of the world" (John 8:12) lands against the backdrop of the Feast of Tabernacles, where massive torches had just been extinguished in the temple treasury. Standing among the charred remains, Jesus claims to be the fulfilment of everything the festival symbolised. Tracing the theme of light from creation through the Old Testament, we see that darkness isn't merely out there. It resides within every human heart. Jesus offers freedom from that darkness through his death and resurrection. The cross becomes the place where the light shines brightest, where "the light of the world by darkness was slain" yet rose victorious. Followers of Jesus become children of light, shining his light in a dark world while awaiting the eternal city where God himself will be the only light needed. -- Our dream is to be a city of refuge within the city of Brisbane, where many people have found refuge, security, and hope in Christ.
