We are more likely to think of honesty as how we relate to others, but it begins within ourselves first. And the same Genius can express itself as a teacher, a strategist, an artist, abuilder, a healer — across a whole lifetime of different forms. [212] What It Means to Walk Your Path

Antonio Machado wrote a line that has stayed with me for years. Caminante, no hay camino. Se hace camino al andar. Traveler, there is no path. The path is made by walking. I find that line both liberating and terrifying in equal measure. And I think that's exactly right. Because the path you are walking — the one that is yours, that belongs to your particular Genius, your particular calling, your particular figure eight — is not something that was laid out before you arrived. Spirituality means different things to different people. For some it's inseparable from religious faith. For others it's entirely secular — a felt sense of connection to something larger, a recognition that the individual life is embedded in something that extends beyond it. For others still, it's a word that carries enough baggage from past experiences that it needs to be approached slowly. All of that is welcome here. And today we look at it as a strength.
