Join us today and Dr. Becker continues our study through the book of Exodus as we read through chapter 10 in his sermon titled, "The Locust & the Darkness" /or/ "The God who Humbles Kings and Harvests Hearts" Exodus 10 asks every person two questions: Q1. What rules your heart? ...what are you unwilling to surrender to God? Q2. Will you humble yourself before the true king? ...Pharaoh hardened his heart repeatedly until darkness consumed him God still exposes our idols today. Often the things we fear losing most reveal what we trust most deeply. Q3. What is it in your heart that you fear losing more than anything else? What does that reveal about you and do you need to reexamine your priorities? Several times during the plagues, Pharaoh told Moses to take his people to go and worship, but he put conditions on it each time, and would harden his heart against them. Q4. Am I offering God full obedience, or trying to negotiate partial surrender while keeping control of certain areas? When the locusts were covering the land, Pharaoh begged Moses to intercede for him before the Lord, admitting that he had sinned. We know that his repentance was half hearted and insincere. Q5. Join us today as Dr. Becker continues our series in the book of Exodus, as we dive into chapter 9 in his sermon titled, "The God who will not be mocked, is the same God who will not let me go" Gods warnings are acts of His Mercy (before every major judgement came another opportunity; over and over God calls to Pharaoh saying, "Let my people go") Q1. When God gives warnings or correction, do I respond quickly, or wait until consequences become unavoidable? Temporary humility is not lasting transformation (Pharaoh finally says, 'I have sinned' - but as soon as the storm stops, the repentance evaporates) Q2. Am I willing to humble myself before God, or do I only seek relief once pressure becomes severe? Q3. Have there been moments where I appeared repentant outwardly, but inwardly returned to old patterns once the crisis passed? God can use even human rebellion to display his glory (God says He will use even Pharaoh's rebellion to display divine power and make His name known) Q4. Do I recognize God’s patience in giving repeated opportunities to respond before judgment fully arrives? Repeated resistance makes the heart harder (Every refusal made the next refusal easier - that still happens today. Conviction ignored becomes conviction diminished) Q5. Where in my life might pride or stubbornness be hardening my heart against truths I already know? Q1. Have you had God answer a prayer as you've asked, only to have the outcome be as inconvenient as what you prayed for relief from? When Pharaoh's magicians were unable to produce gnats in the land, they told the Pharaoh that this was from God, and still he would not listen. Q2. How do you help someone to understand God's judgement? How do you come to terms with the sin in your life and God's commandments? We see Pharaoh change his mind several times, saying that he would let the Hebrews go, then hardens his heart against them and does not let them go. Q3. How do you go about handling people who don't stick to their word? Throughout the plagues, we read where God would harden the Pharaoh's heart. Q4. How challenging would it be for you to go request something from someone, knowing they would be hardened and potentially difficult to deal with? A hard heart rarely happens overnight. Q5. Is there anything in your life that you feel like you harden your heart to, maybe something that challenges your faith? God hardened Pharaoh's Heart to allow His signs and wonders to multiply, so that the Egyptians shall know that HE is the Lord. - What has God done in your life to show you that He is the Lord? Q2. Pharaoh responded to the signs and wonders with acts from his wise men. This only hardened the Pharaoh's heart that much more. - When your prayers go unanswered, do you harden your heart against God or do you trust in God's will in that unanswered prayer? Q3. Have you seen anyone who has continued to harden their heart against God despite God working in their lives? - How can you help them? Q4. When Aaron's staff as a serpent swallowed the staffs of the wise men, this is a symbolic gesture of Genesis and Revelation that the serpent will be defeated. - When God's Word is revealed to tie together in the Old and New Testament, how does that help to change your heart towards God's Word? Q5. What "Counterfeit Powers" are you tempted to trust in? (i.e., success, control, reputation, competency, passion) - Where are you getting your refreshment?
