Dismount
I want it…no I need it. What actually is the difference between them? How do you determine what are your essential needs versus what are things that you want and feel like you cannot live without? When you have hobbies that bring you joy, and they are things that also are good for your mind, body, or soul...how do you classify those as wants because they are not essential to making it to tomorrow? Why would it even matter to wake up tomorrow if you were always putting off your wants to the back burner? How do you keep showing up tomorrow when you are put in a tough life predicament that is forcing you to focus on survival over happiness? Saddle up as the squad sets off on a journey in this discussion to find the happy balance between doing things for themselves while making sure they have all their basic needs met. Oh, wait we forgot to mention how bills and life expenses play a factor into that survival thing, you know all those things that we have to make sure are covered because of the world we live in that is way too capitalistic for comfort sometimes. The squad has a tough challenge on this one, how will they respond. What is most important to them as individuals but also people who have others counting on them to provide at times. =============================================================================== The Dismount Squad creates 6 questions to discuss on each episode. Everyone in the episode was given these questions prior to the episode recording. The squad individually takes time to journal on each of these questions. The conversations are authentic, raw and deep. Episode 58 Questions/Thought Sparkers: 1. Can you remember a time when you thought you wanted something only to later realize it was actually a deep need you had not acknowledged? 2. How do you personally define the difference between a want and a need? Who taught you how to draw that line? 3. When life gets hard, what’s the first “want” that disappears from your routine? How does its absence affect your well-being? 4. Is it possible that JOY, PLAY, or CREATIVITY, the things we often label as “wants” are actually essential for survival in a meaningful way? 5. How do financial obligations and capitalism pressure you to prioritize needs over wants? How do you resist or work with that system? 6. If you could design a life where your core needs and most important wants worked together, what would that balance look like? What would need to change? ============================================================================== WANT TO JOIN IN THE CONVERSATION WITH US?
