Descripción

On this episode I sat down with Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Lauren M. Jackson.  We discussed how to get the conversation started regarding forgiving our fatherz.  Many of us are flourishing in our professional lives, while breaking generational curses raising our daughterz.  We understand how vital the role of a father is in so many aspects of our lives.  But how can we really break generational curses with built up animosity, aggression, and a lack of forgiveness for our own dads?  Let's face it, some of our fatherz have let us down on so many occasions in life.  Even when we do give a negligent father the opportunity to repair things with us, instead of doing just that, they usually remind us (through their actions) exactly why we have said issues with them to begin with!  It's a losing battle.  How do we forgive someone who sees no wrong in their actions?  How do we forgive someone who gets defensive and runs from the hard conversations about how their actions have negatively affected us in life?  Tune in and let's dissect this! -Too Cool Thomas

Education: Choosing the Right Schools for Black Youth

On this Episode of the DJ'z and Daughterz Podcast, I interviewed Dr. Charles Bell who is currently a Criminal Justice Professor at Illinois State University.  Dr. Bell is a published author whose latest book titled Suspended: Punishment, Violence, and the Failure of School Safety is providing an unorthodox perspective on school suspensions.  The book provides an in depth analysis on just how harmful/counterproductive it can be suspending our students from school as a disciplinary measure.  According to Dr. Bell's research, on average Black students in American schools are.... 15% OF THE K-12 SCHOOL-AGE POPULATION 38% OF THE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED AT LEAST ONE OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION 6X MORE LIKELY TO RECEIVE A SCHOOL SUSPENSION THAN WHITE GIRLS 4X MORE LIKELY TO RECEIVE A SCHOOL SUSPENSION THAN WHITE BOYS With these statistics, just HOW do we choose the right school for our kidz?  Tune in as we have a serious and in depth conversation about it.
