Descripción

Shane has been part of the station since 2016, so I've known him a long time now. This is the first time Shane agreed to come on my show—we talk about that. We also discuss his childhood with his single mom, boarding school and in my Dr. Lisa opinion, the POSITIVE changes being a father of a 5 year old girl and 10 month old boy, along with his RFB experience and becoming the station director have had on him. Shane has a great radio show "Everybody Plays the Fool" [https://www.radiofreebrooklyn.org/show/everybody-plays-the-fool/] Hosted by Shane LIVE every Monday at 9:00pm … Everybody Plays the Fool showcases a wide variety of music, with a different theme each week! Previous topics include: cats, baked goods, Dolly Parton, Muppets, baseball, and beer. It may be factual, may be cruel.

DLG397 RFB Station Founder Tom Tenney, is here on his birthday!

Tom has been on this show several times. In this session we examine Tom's personal transition from being a workaholic radio station director, living in Bushwick to a more balanced, "emotionally healthy" (Dr. Lisa's judgement!!) adult with a job and a partner living in Washington Heights. Tom was station director from 2015—2021 when he transferred the main responsibilities and Station Director Title to Shane Gasteyer. Shane (check out the episode before this one #396!) has also done a fabulous job of growing the station and keeping the community thriving. If you want to understand Tom's background and how he came to start RFB, please listen to my first ever Dr. Lisa Gives A Shit from with Tom [https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pdst.fm/e/traffic.megaphone.fm/RADIO6494850016.mp3?updated=1749225855]. We do a deep dive into his background in the very first days of RFB in our first and brand new studio in the basement of a bike shop - May 2015. If you'd like to hear Tom reflect on the radio station journey, you can listen to our Dr. Lisa session from last year, May 2025, on the milestone of the stations 10th year anniversary [https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pdst.fm/e/traffic.megaphone.fm/RADIO1097629971.mp3?updated=1748618802], something back in 2015 would have seemed like a wild pipe dream. Tom Tenney, RFB Co-Founder talks about living thru 10 years of RFB. 10 year Anniversary Episode!!!

NOTE: To get the full effect of who Tom was 10 years ago when he first started the station, listen to this episode with Tom at the very beginning of RFB: May 15, 2015— Dr. Lisa psychoanalyzes RFB co-founder Tom Tenney [https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pdst.fm/e/traffic.megaphone.fm/RADIO6494850016.mp3] Tom Tenney, the station co-founder, (along with Rob Pritchard), was my first guest patient when I began my show on May 15, 2015 and this session with Tom is exactly 10 years later, this time Tom is my 10th anniversary guest patient so we have plenty to reflect on as well as looking forward. Tom's entire life was Radio Free Brooklyn for many years in an obsessive way, which as a fake shrink is why he was able to make something so major into an organization that currently thrives with other capable people [https://www.radiofreebrooklyn.org/about/leadership/] now leading the charge.Tom's life has evolved during the last 10 years: from Bushwick to Washington Heights, new psych meds, from being single for a very long time, to a successful thriving relationship with a wonderful woman who he lives with in a nice place and a job in retail while he continues to evolve his new ideas. Radio Free Brooklyn had changed so many lives over the last 10 years, but possibly no one more than Toms.Tom's show: Previous May 15, 2015— Dr. Lisa psychoanalyzes RFB co-founder Tom Tenney [https://www.podtrac.com/pts/redirect.mp3/pdst.fm/e/traffic.megaphone.fm/RADIO6494850016.mp3] May 14, 2020— Tom Tenney, Radio Free Brooklyn’s Executive Director return’s to Dr. Lisa’s couch in honor of RFB’s 5th anniversary and it’s on his birthday too! episode DLG395 David Rogers is making good use of his time in the US-esp with Radio Free Brooklyn! artwork

DLG395 David Rogers is making good use of his time in the US-esp with Radio Free Brooklyn!

"I find it comforting that, if anything else, what this city gives you is a sense that you're a person apable of making your way in this city, it's really tough and it can be a very tough place to live and work". - David Rogers This was a really interesting talk I had with one of our newish hosts, David Rogers of the Down in Albion Show. [https://www.radiofreebrooklyn.org/show/down-in-albion/] Turns out he moved to NYC from the UK with his wife and 10 year old son about 18 months ago. David has had the wonderful opportunity to reinvent himself from a UK economist to a liaison between great bands in the UK and NYC.) He's also getting to spend more time with his son, who has a spot every week on David's radio show. This is clearly a great time in his life and his families life for growth. David is using this time to great results. Join host David Rogers LIVE every Monday, 11am on his show, Down In Albion on an exploration of the best new and emerging music from the UK and Ireland. If you’re curious about new music, and wonder what tunes are making waves on the other side of the pond, tune in every Monday at 11am. About David Rogers David was born in Scotland, grew up in England, and spent much of his life living and working in London. He caught the live music bug early, attending his first gig at a village hall aged 14. David moved to New York a year ago and has dived headlong into the New York music scene, experiencing all genres from NYC post-punk to Appalachian folk. But his first love will always be independent British bands. This show is an opportunity to introduce the bands he loves to new audiences. In his spare time, you can usually find David browsing old books and vinyl, watching live music, sipping craft ales, climbing tall things or riding one of his vintage bikes around NY.
