Nearly the entire field of psychology and especially developmental psychology has been normed on white elite males and then generalized to females. Although the virtues and styles of women leaders have often been classified as lesser and even demeaned, we are now seeing the power and effectiveness of those behaviors, especially in leadership. Dr Stacy Feiner, Dr Kathy Overbeke and their colleagues have authored a new look at a holistic developmental model which they call The Sixth Level. Trauma and Emotional Intelligence

While emotional intelligence is about knowing your own reactions so that you can better deal with situations, we are currently facing several events so tragic that friends we may know are experiencing trauma (e.g., Fires in Maui and floods in Vermont). In this session I discuss the difference between how we can support friends in trauma and the more normal emotional responses we have on a daily basis. Using Maui as an example I talk about how that type of support can look and contrast that with what I present in the book (Learning To Feel) as our. regular, run-of-the-mill emotional reactions. Emotional Intelligence In Relationships

Athletes, Emotions And Performance

In this session I talk with Dr Stacy Feiner who not only is a business coach but has done work with elite athletes. We discuss how much emotions play a role in the overall performance of the athlete, what their reactions were during the pandemic lockdown and the distinctions between “funk” and “slump”. Stacy and I both found that with athletes we had to first find our unique role in that relationship to be effective – something that athletes were very quick to respond to.
