Pod 11 - Unraveling Society: Music, Politics -the music of politics?
Dive into a thought-provoking exploration of the intersections between music, politics, and this crazy society of ours. In this episode, we dissect how cultural icons like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Jennifer Aniston influence political discourse. From the power of celebrity endorsements to the nuanced dynamics of race, class, and gender in everyday life, our discussion sheds light on the complexities of understanding the current social issues. Join us as we tackle critical topics like meritocracy, empathy, and social institutions while reflecting on the role of education and knowledge we want to pass on the next generations. Considering the stat of the world they will certainly need all the help then can get.
Pod 10 - Solidarity for your neighbors ...solidarity for your community
In today’s episode, we tackle the deep-rooted isolation and polarization fueled by modern capitalism, social media, and systemic inequality. Why are we more divided than ever, despite sharing so many common struggles? We explore how our economic system and digital platforms foster competition over community, creating rifts that weaken our potential for solidarity and collective action. From the loss of manufacturing jobs to the erosion of in-person connection, our guest discusses how these trends lead to alienation and shares why face-to-face interactions and grassroots education might hold the key to breaking free. Tune in to discover how direct human connection and shared spaces can help bridge ideological divides, foster empathy, and empower communities to challenge systemic injustices together.
Pod 9 - how science became corporate
Another of the cuff conversation, or rather maybe the beginning of the brother discussion about academia. My honored guest is a first class professor with a PhD in history and a colorful and fruitful life that most of us can only dream about. However, his biggest life achievement is being a friend of mine, something only few dear to even try. Together we dive in to: who was and who is doing science. Some personal hatred of mine towards certain academic disciplines ( no, not economy, not this time but soon they will feel my wrath), few historical figures and most of all funding. Like in real estate, academia today has 3 rules: funding, funding and funding.
Pod 8 - Positionality and social change
Pod 7 - Talking, men, masculinity and do men need to add more to the dabete?
Another engaging and off-the-cuff discussion as two social scientists explore the complexities of masculinity in today’s world. We start by briefly mentioning a relatively recent move, Promising Young Woman, and then dive in to a potential problem of men talking about masculinity. In a way, this is our bast improvising take on how to contribute to this conversation, who should be talking and what or why. Maybe we even mention how? Well, there is only one way you can find out!
