It’s a self-reinforcing system that systematically dismantles your capacity to function. Prayer becomes inaccessible. Connection feels impossible. The things that would actually help you—they’re suddenly the hardest things to do. And that’s not a bug. That’s the design. When Rebbe Nachman said sadness is the primary weapon of the evil inclination, he wasn’t being poetic. He was identifying a precise psychological trap: the paralysis cascade. Triggering event → cognitive interpretation → emotional response → behavioral withdrawal → reinforcement loop.
