Every Friday Night Until The End Of Time: The Podcast!
Podcast de Eric Kufs
Every Friday Night Until The End Of Time started out as a weekly Facebook Live show that Eric Kufs started hosting once the quarantine took hold of the world. He had already been broadcasting some of his live shows to FB Live from time to time so in a sense it was a natural progression to create a weekly gig after public gatherings/live music events came to a halt. The show started in a kind of loose format with Eric playing live and interacting with online viewers(taking requests as well as catching up with viewers each week). Soon it took shape and while it retained it's weekly, solo, interactive feel, it took on the almost crazy format of learning and performing and entire album (or eventually an entire mixtape) at the request of a different listener each week. Also evolving was the network of familiar faces, both on screen and off, that have made the Friday night ritual a kind of haven for all those involved in these times of isolation. Eric's daughter Sally Jane and wife Sydney make frequent appearances on the show adding even more of a warm feel to the already cozy vibe of the show(the former adding gravitas to Rubber Duckie or flat out taking over the set's equipment while the latter brings gorgeous vocals to duets as well as some solo performances). These shows tend to get looser and looser in the final hour or so and soon one feels like they are back out in the real world...Friday night...a bar...a band...some friends...some drinks. Cheers and welcome to Every Friday Night Until The End Of Time: The Podcast!

This week's episode of EFNUTEOT THE PODCAST takes us back to April 17 when the album challenge of the week was R.E.M.'s incredible "Automatic For The People". The rest of the show is no slouch either, boasting gems by everyone from Ray Charles to The Grateful Dead; Bruce Springsteen to Willie Nelson; Van Morrison to Jimmy Cliff; David Bowie to Elton John; Tom Waits to Cookie Monster (well, I guess some people won't find that to be much of a stretch); the Beatles to...well...Paul McCartney (um, I guess that's not such a stretch either. Well, Eric plays "Junk" so that in and of itself is pretty cool). This week Sydney shines on "Find The River" bringing a whole new feel to this song that most of us have loved for about 20 years and as usual, Sally Jane gives a command performance of "C Is For Cookie" and "Rubber Duckie" while bringing an avant garde feel to "Mama Don't Allow". All in all this show is Eric in fine form, going deep while still figuring out what this weekley show was to become. Here's some info on the show... Welcome To Every Friday Night Until The End Of Time: The Podcast. This week is probably the episode that most clearly changed the show into the juggernaut of music geekdom, boozy sentimentality and nighthawk wisdom with just a hint of friendly ball busting we all know, love and look forward to every Friday night. The introduction of the weekly album request where a listener can donate/tip and have Eric learn an entire album of their choice and play it in the middle of the show. It's like a sadistic jukebox where there is a musician where the records should be. It's kinda cruel to the artist who has to learn all this in a few days but what's better than calling out a request at a bar on a late Friday and having the band play it? Well, having them play your favorite album! As crazy as it is, here we are every week expecting Eric to do that very thing...over and over and over. The funny thing is, I've kinda been putting him through this kind of thing at some bar or coffee house for about 24 years now and I am still amazed by how he pulls this stuff off. So join me and the rest of the EFNUTEOT crowd way back on April 3rd 2020 for the first Complete Album challange and don't skip any of the other stuff either. Of particular not(for me) was all the Bill Withers songs busted out(He had just passed a couple days before and he was HUGE for many of us), the gorgeous duet with Sydney Nichols on Little Feat's "Willin'", as well as so many other great covers ranging from Echo & the Bunnymen to Tom Waits to Whitney Houston to Bruce to Prince to the Black Keys etc... So turn this up loud, pour a drink and dig in... All songs written by Eric Kufs unless noted in brackets. Welcome To Every Friday Night Until The End Of Time: The Podcast. This week we start things off appropriately enough...at the beginning. Eric gives us a few words at the beginning and end of the show talking about how this very simple idea of a Friday night show (with some great music, some friends(new and old), some drinks and a brave ringmaster(my words, not his) could at the very least, take us out of out isolation haze, even if only virtually and even if only for a few hours) could become something special. Special in it's normalcy. I think that's what most of us were(and are) looking for in these strange times. So check out the intro/outro of each show as Eric is going back and listening to each ep and reflecting on them. As for me, I will only make some technical notes (read APOLOGIES) on this first show's sound. There were a few limitations with the audio source on this one so some cleaning up/editing had to be done and still there are some small issues. There were 2 cuts that had to be made(denoted in the track listing with %) and there were some small edits of dead air. However these shows will always keep the edit's to a bare minimum and the only sound enhancements will be EQ'ing and removal of digital noise. The shows will always shoot for a “warts and all” feel but rest assured that after this show the sound gets markedly better. That's all for now.
