Fall River State of Mind Episode 4 : Grief Support in Fall River (Part II) - Hosted by: Owen Ivey LICSW - Guest: Bob Mailloux, Founder, Rewriting Myself Grief Support. Grief is a universal human experience, however, exactly how each one of us grieve a loss is as unique as our fingerprints. As a grief therapist myself I’m obviously deeply passionate about grief support and in my work aim to assist folks in walking their grief journey. In doing grief work in Fall River I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Bob Mailloux, who, after a difficult and unexpected loss in his own life has done amazing work in helping to support others who are grieving. In this episode Bob and I continue our conversation from Episode 3 - Bob continues to offer unique insights into grief from his own experience and also talks with me about the misconceptions about grief support, the benefits of grief groups in particular, and speaks to the common human experiences we all tend to have in grieving. Thanks again for listening. Please subscribe and share with friends and family! -Owen

Episode 2: Mental Health Services in Fall River

Fall River State of Mind Episode 2: Mental Health Services in Fall River Hosted by: Owen Ivey LICSW Guests Julia Nepini LICSW, Compassionate Counseling CompanyLisa DeJesus PMHNP, Healing Minds PsychiatryI've come to realize lately that not everyone understands or is familiar with mental health services like folks are in my life, in my family, and in my network. Meeting new people I've been reminded lately many folks aren't sure what mental health therapy is, how it works, or who needs it. Furthermore, many people don't understand how mental health medication works, the pros and cons of using medication, or are otherwise scared away by misconceptions. And considering how many excellent therapy and medication management providers there are in Fall River alone, it's a shame more folks aren't taking advantage of the help they can offer. Today I aim to spotlight two local providers while also providing viewers and listeners a crash course on mental health counseling and medication management. If you, or a friend, or a family member, have been holding off looking into this kind of support, I hope what you hear today will answer questions you have, ease your worry, and overcome stigma and misconception. EP1: Outreach Services in Fall River

Fall River State of Mind Episode 1 : Outreach Services in Fall River Hosted by: Owen Ivey LICSW Guest: Niki Fontaine, Director of Outreach Services for the City of Fall River I've observed in Fall River, both in talking with residents, following local politics, and learning about what's said online, that there is prevelant belief that City Hall isn't doing enough for the most in need. I invited Niki Fontaine on the program to discuss the work her department in Fall River City Hall is doing to serve the unhoused, folks suffering with addictions, and folks struggling with mental health. She shares what her work really looks like and what is required of her and her team to really help folks. She outlines some of the hurdles folks face in getting the help and support they need, that I believe many of us don't know or appreciate. She comments on policies and efforts underway that are helping and some that aren't helping as much as we'd like. And she shouts out some folks in the city we should all be grateful are doing this work with her. My hope is that by hearing from Niki we can all discuss this topic more responsibly. I hope we can change the language and rhetoric around the unhoused members of our community. I hope we can all find ways to lend a helping hand in what is a significant human problem in today's modern world, and in particular Fall River.
