Father Ian Petit, O.S.B., entered Ampleforth Abbey in 1941, and then left for a period of work and discernment. Upon his return, he professed vows as a monk of Ampleforth Abbey in 1954, and was ordained to the priesthood on March 21, 1956. He was sent to America, where he served and taught at St. Louis Abbey in Missouri for 15 years, until 1971, when he returned to England.
