Grappling Rewind: Breakdowns of Professional BJJ and Grappling Events

This week on the show, Maine and Corey break down the submission-heavy action from UFC BJJ 2 in the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. We recap the entire card including the two title fights. We also touch on some of the key results from the BJJ Stars 16 Absolute Grand Prix that took place the previous week. In our recap of UFC BJJ 2, we dive deep into the technical oddities of the main with Andrew Tackett making the first-ever successful title defense in UFC BJJ history. We break down Tackett's pace management to slow Canuto down and strategic passing to north-south and an odd Darce entry. We break down the sequence that allowed Tackett to lock up the D'Arce choke and get the sub with only 8 seconds left in the first round to retain his welterweight title. We also break down the co-main event, where Mason Fowler put on an impressive  performance to become the inaugural UFC BJJ Light Heavyweight Champion. We talked about Masons sub win over David Garmo by rear-naked choke in just over two minutes.  We look at the Tackett brothers going a perfect 2-0 on the night, with William Tackett also winning by rear-naked choke victory in his UFC BJJ debut against Kyle Chambers a rematch from his colored belt days.  We talked about Raquel Canuto defeating Mo Black with slick kneebar using the UFC Bowl to get the finish. We also discuss the decision victories for Kennedy Maciel, and Tammi Musumeci, the sister of UFC BJJ Bantamweight Champion Mikey Musumeci.    In the final segment of the show, we touch on the action from the BJJ Stars 16 Absolute GP. We discuss Pedro Marinho's run to the championship, with decision wins over Devhonte Johnson and Fabricio Andrey, before capping off the night with a dramatic, late guillotine/ Reverse Bulldog choke submission over Yatan Bueno in the final. We also break down the electric performance of Fabricio "Hokage" Andrey, whose dynamic blend of judo and wrestling was on display in Brazil. We discussed.Kingsway wildcard Micael Galvão, and how his participation may throw a large wrench into the other teams lineups.  In the recap section of the show dive deep into the technical nuances and strategic decisions that shaped each bout. We look at Vagners Rochas performance over Kit Dale the main event's and discuss the narrative behind the matchmaking. In Adele Fornarino vs Jasmine Rocha we talked about Adele's leg lock transitions, winning the match with an unorthodox ankle lock.  In one of the best matches on the card we looked at the improvements in Roberto Jimenez game vs Ryan Aitken taking the EBI champ to a decision after multiple back takes off of leg lock transitions.  We talked about Max Hanson close and somewhat controversal decision win over Gianni Grippo. We breakdown the eleven-match card, featuring a mix of established names and interesting matchups.  In the news section we discussed Craig Jones leaving B team and Helena Crevar signing to One Championship. We also discussed the upcoming Craig Jones Invitational 2 CJI 2 and how Helena signing with One Championship could potentially impact her participation in the women's $100,000 bracket. In our preview of the main event we break down the middleweight clash between veterans Kit Dale and Vagner Rocha looking at Kit's recent win over Xande and his pathway to victory in this matchup.  In the bantamweight rematch between Adele Fornarino and Jasmine Rocha we discussed their first matchup and the dynamics of the style mashup with Jasmine heavy pressure and forward dominance against the dynamic close guard work that one down the last matchup via submission at ADCC.  In the light heavyweight division matchup between Roberto Jimenez and Ryan Aitken, we discussed how both athletes are seemingly at the top of their game. This week on the show Maine and Miranda recap the 2025 AIGA championship event from last week.  This week on the show we discuss the 2025 AIGA championships that took place last weekend we talk about potentially one of the least publicized major event events to happen in the year and why it is absolutely worth your time to go rewatch on YouTube.  We break down both day one and day two of the 17 hour event that featured 55 matches of some of the highest level submission grappling the sport has to offer. We talked about all of the big names at the event and all of their matches we discussed some of the more notable results and some of the most interesting techniques that we saw from the two days of grappling.  We also discussed some of the trends for some of the athletes that we are consistently seeing across their game in high-level events over the last few years. We discussed some of the biggest upsets, and some of the biggest perceived upsets that may not have actually been as shocking as people might have expected.  In the outro section of the show, we discussed the previews for the coming weeks events.  Recorded 7-7-2025
