Heal Transform Flourish Podcast
As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to fall, nature reminds us of one of the deepest truths in Traditional Chinese Medicine: autumn belongs to the Lungs and the Metal element. It’s a season of letting go — of exhaling the excess, making space for clarity, and re-finding purity in what truly matters.Just like the trees shed their leaves, we too are invited to release what we no longer need: old emotions, grief, expectations, and even the tension that keeps us from breathing fully. 🌬️ The Lungs and the Art of Letting Go In TCM, the Lungs govern breath, the skin, and the emotion of grief. They are the bridge between the outer and inner worlds — taking in what nourishes and releasing what no longer serves. When Lung energy flows freely, we feel inspired, clear-minded, and able to move through change gracefully. When it stagnates, we may feel sadness, tightness in the chest, shallow breathing, or even skin flare-ups and fatigue. “To breathe deeply is to trust life.” This season asks us to soften control, to inhale faith, and exhale resistance. 🍵 Herbs & Foods for Autumn Balance Nature gives us exactly what we need each season. In autumn, choose foods and herbs that moisturize, nourish Yin, and support the Lungs: 🌿 Herbal Allies: * White mulberry leaf (Sang Ye) — clears dryness & soothes irritation * Licorice root (Gan Cao) — harmonizes and supports Lung Qi * Astragalus (Huang Qi) — fortifies immunity and protects Wei Qi * Ophiopogon (Mai Men Dong) — moistens dryness and calms the spirit * Pear & honey — a simple daily tonic for throat and Lung Yin 🥣 Foods:Asian pears, daikon radish, rice, oats, almonds, sesame seeds, leeks, tofu, and gently cooked vegetables with a drizzle of warm oil. 💨 Rituals for Emotional Release * Breathwork for letting go:Inhale through your nose for 4 counts, exhale through your mouth for 6 counts. As you exhale, visualize grief leaving your body like mist. * Lung-Meridian Massage:Massage gently from your collarbone toward your shoulder, then down the inner arm toward the thumb. This movement clears stagnation and opens the chest. * Autumn Journal Prompt:“What is ready to fall away, and what truth am I ready to breathe in?” 🌕 Healing the Metal Element in Everyday Life Metal teaches us about refinement and boundaries. It asks: What is essential? What am I clinging to out of fear?As we clear clutter — physically, emotionally, energetically — we polish the inner mirror that reflects our soul. This is also the best time for grief work, inner decluttering, and restoring spiritual discipline: prayer, meditation, and mindful breath. Remember, your exhale is sacred — it’s a form of surrender. 🌿 My Autumn Herbal Allies I love creating warming, moistening blends that calm the nervous system and open the lungs.
