On March 1st, 1942 the United States cruise Houston attempted to escape the Japanese blockade of Java with the Australian cruiser Perth alongside. They failed and were both sunk. For years no one knew what had happened to the ships and their crews. The fog of war enveloped them until the end of war when their survivors were found among the POWs in SE Asia.
