Homeroom With Smooth Podcast
Smooth breaks down the Karmelo Anthony murder conviction and why, despite the harsh verdict, the circumstances surrounding the case make it hard to defend. While Smooth initially questioned the murder one charge arguing manslaughter or murder two made far more legal sense new details emerged mid-conversation that shifted the entire take. Karmelo was on an active suspension from school and the track team when the stabbing occurred. Worse, his previous suspension was for bringing a knife to school and he brought one again. That combination of choices eviscerated any self-defense argument he could have leaned on. Smooth's take: 35 years may be excessive, and murder one is a stretch given there was no prior relationship with the victim. But when you're somewhere you're not supposed to be, carrying something you're not supposed to have, for the second time the system has very little sympathy to offer. A tough conversation about accountability, the justice system, and how one bad decision after another can cost you everything.
