Karla Souza joins Matt and Jack fresh off Jack's chance encounter with Viola Davis on the streets of New York; a good omen if there ever was one. Karla catches them up on everything she's been up to since HTGAWM: Home Economics, her new Amazon show 56 Days, a newly released comic book, and her ongoing advocacy work. But first: the audition story. She originally read for Michaela, got redirected to Laurel, had never heard the word "booked" used that way, and thought Shonda Rhimes was Busta Rhymes. The rest is history.  On the podcast, Karla opens up about constantly auditioning out of the back of her car, leaving behind a successful career in Mexico to take a risk on the American market, and how her acting career has led to becoming a producer and hopeful future director. She gets into her background as a trained gymnast, her TED Talk on muscle tears and growth, the adrenaline addiction that links athletics to acting, and how she gravitates toward projects that, often unknowingly. reflect her own unhealed wounds. They also getinto how faith and listening shape her approach to acting, what Death of a Salesman rehearsals have dredged up for Jack (therapist search officially underway), and Matt's quiet evolution from self-described atheist on the HTGAWM set to something more spiritual now.  We want to hear from you! episode 112: She's a Murderder artwork

112: She's a Murderder

One host is sneezing through allergy season, the other just wrapped a family visit, and Sam's remains have been found in a landfill, so let's get into it. Annalise is clinging to her mob case for dear life, Hannah is on a mission, and Asher finally gets brought into the fold. Also, Matt is just now finding out that Bonnie is a lawyer. Just now.  On the podcast, Matt and Jack dig into the classroom becoming a masterclass in 5th amendment rights for the Keating 4, the great Connor and Asher energy this episode, the bumps (foliage in winter, murder discussed openly, Laurel using a burner phone out in the wild), and the behind the scenes of how the courtroom set works. Plus spit buckets and how eating scenes actually get filmed. They try to work out the case of the week IRL (lawyers, please chime in the comments), marvel at the Annalise incest line, and get into Viola cracking everyone up trying to say a character's last name on set. Until next week!  We want to hear from you! episode Liza Weil on Bonnie Winterbottom, Shondaland, and Babysteps artwork

Liza Weil on Bonnie Winterbottom, Shondaland, and Babysteps

Matt and Jack welcome Liza Weil, known for West Wing, Gilmore Girls, Westworld, a million other things, and quite possibly the most Shondaland actor of all time, but best known to this audience as the one and only Bonnie Winterbottom. Liza opens up about coming to HTGAWM with a three-year-old at home and a serious case of imposter syndrome; she had no expectations about how well the show would do, didn't test for the role, and had to get on a plane within days of booking it. She talks about her long history with Shondaland and why she was afraid a lot of the time on HTGAWM, but okay once the cameras rolled. She also gets into how she originally auditioned for Rory on Gilmore Girls, the devastation of losing community when projects end, moving to NY and LA with no formal training and no backup plan, and how she's finally learning to get out of her own way. Plus, how something feeling bad and the end product being good are two entirely different things, and what Lunar Sway cracked open for her personally. One for the books! We want to hear from you! episode 111: Best Christmas Ever artwork

111: Best Christmas Ever

Matt turned 40 this week and Jack's Broadway show is officially open, and somehow they still showed up to recap Episode 11. Priorities.  After the holiday break, Annalise resurfaces from a hotel drinking spiral and throws herself into a very intense case to avoid dealing with the Sam situation. The Keating 5 are getting grilled by police, Hannah is sniffing around and suspicious, and Annalise says the name of the show out loud in front of a classroom for the second time. A lot happening.  On the podcast, Matt and Jack get into the Scranton Strangler parallels, Katie Findlay's sweet smile and humor shining through, Connor's Christmas flashback and the emotional manipulation disguised as a cute boyfriend scene, the casually terrifying moment where Frank offers to kill Hannah like it's nothing, and the soap suds. You can’t forget the soap suds. Plus, Asher takes a moral stand, Aiden and Michaela's engagement implodes, and the episode ends on Rebecca watching the news as Sam's remains are found. Real gamechanger.   We want to hear from you! episode 110: Hello Raskolnikov artwork

110: Hello Raskolnikov

The show is back from hiatus and so is the chaos. Episode 10 picks up with the investigation into Sam's disappearance, the Keating 4 barely holding it together, and Annalise sitting down with detectives to answer questions about Night X... armor fully on, tell fully intact. Matt has done the analysis: she has a giveaway when she's lying, and there's a really big word for it. Meanwhile the Keating 4 are discussing the crime basically in front of law enforcement, Wes produces Sam's ring from the body, Rebecca goes goth again (and then non-goth), and Frank finds out Laurel committed a murder and genuinely could not care less.  On the podcast, Matt and Jack dig into the bad police work, the visual juxtapositions running through the episode, and the first real glimpse of Connor being supportive of Michaela. Jack correctly guessed Connor said the title line... anxiety memory from not being able to pronounce it at the table read. Plus, Annalise giving the Keating 4 an exam scenario that mirrors exactly what they did, and Marcia Gay Harden closing things out with a full mic drop.  We want to hear from you!
