Six Thousand Years Near Complete
Inspired by the discussions surrounding the nearness of Christ's return and the approaching completion of the six-thousand-year period of sin's history, I wrote this song.
I believe that Christ's coming is near and that the long-awaited millennium is drawing close. While we do not know the exact day or hour of His return, Scripture teaches that we should recognize when it is near.
I appreciate Pastor Andrew Henriques's use of biblical typologies—particularly those of Lazarus' four days in the grave and the Good Samaritan's two pence—in pointing us to the nearness of the time. Whether one agrees with these interpretations or not, they remind us of an important truth: Jesus is coming again. Rather than creating controversy, let us focus on preparing our own hearts and helping others prepare as well. May we watch, pray, work, and remain faithful until our Lord appears in the clouds.
Six Thousand Years Near Complete
By Zeres Vitto
Verse 1
Four thousand years the promise stood, Since Eden's gate was closed by sin;
The Seed foretold in mercy's word
Would crush the serpent's head at last.
The race grew weak through ages long,
Yet heaven kept the covenant sure;
Then in the fullness of God's time,
The Savior came to dwell with men.
Chorus
Six thousand years are near complete,
The signs proclaim His coming near;
The One who promised, "I will come,"
Will soon be seen upon the clouds.
We know not day, we know not hour,
The Father keeps that secret still; Yet every promise points us home,
Till end-time prophecies fulfilled.
Verse 2
At Bethany a brother slept,
Four days within the silent grave;
Yet Christ delayed, then called him forth,
And death released its captive prey. So four thousand years beneath sin's curse,
Had passed before the Savior came;
The Life-Giver came to our world,
To call the lost from death to life.
Chorus
Six thousand years are near complete,
The signs proclaim His coming near;
The One who promised, "I will come,"
Will soon be seen upon the clouds.
We know not day, we know not hour,
The Father keeps that secret still;
Yet every promise points us home,
Till end-time prophecies fulfilled.
Verse 3
A traveler lay beside the road,
Wounded and left to surely die;
The Good Samaritan drew near,
With healing mercy in His hands.
He bound his wounds with oil and wine,
Restoring life where hope had fled;
He paid two coins till He returns,
Two days with God, two thousand years.
Bridge
A day with God—a thousand years,
So Peter by the Spirit wrote;
And many see within the type
Two days of waiting for the King.
Yet not by dates our faith shall stand,
Nor by a time that man can know;
But by His word and promised oath:
"Behold, I come," the Savior said.
Final Chorus
Six thousand years are near complete,
The signs proclaim His coming near;
The One who promised, "I will come,"
Will soon be seen upon the clouds.
Though day and hour remain concealed,
His people need not walk in night;
For truth shines brighter as we near
Earth's thousand years of Sabbath rest.
Outro
Six thousand years near complete,
The long rebellion soon shall cease;
The kingdoms of this world shall fall,
Before the Prince of Peace appears.
Then earth shall keep her Sabbath rest,
A thousand years in silence lie;
While saints with Christ review the books,
Awaiting sin's eternal end.
