Episode 610: All Things Bayshore Marathon with Zach Ripley, Sabrina Blank, and Joe Dimambro

We’re taking a quick break from the Behind the Mic series this week to bring you something special—an episode all about the Bayshore Marathon! I’ll be emceeing this beautiful race on Saturday, May 24th, and whether you’re running it this year or planning ahead for the future, this episode has everything you need to know. Joining me today are three awesome guests with deep connections to Bayshore. First up is Zach Ripley, a multiple-time Bayshore winner and 2:16 marathoner who ran at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. He’s part of the A to Z Running duo (alongside his wife, Andi), and he brings a wealth of knowledge about this course and how to approach it. Next, you’ll hear from Sabrina Blank, known as @thatpsychedrunner on Instagram. She’s a PhD student, host of The Psyched Runner podcast, and a multi-time Bayshore finisher in both the full and half marathons. Sabrina will also be helping emcee our live podcast event on Friday, May 23rd, which I’ll be hosting with Olympian Dakotah Popehn (Lindwurm)—so it was great to chat with her about the race and all things Traverse City. Finally, I talk with Joe Dimambro, Executive Director of Playmakers Sports, the event team behind the Bayshore Marathon. Joe walks us through everything you need to know logistically—whether it’s your first time at Bayshore or you’re coming back for more. This course is absolutely stunning—right along Lake Michigan, tree-lined, and peaceful. If you’re already registered, make sure to grab your ticket to our live podcast recording on Friday, May 23rd at 3 p.m. at the historic Traverse City Opera House. It’s going to be a special afternoon with Dakotah and me, and we’re raffling off VIP happy hour access to a small group of attendees. You can find all the details and get your ticket at bayshoremarathon.org [https://bayshoremarathon.org/]. Thanks so much for tuning in—and stay tuned next week as we pick back up with the Behind the Mic series! Go check out the Bayshore Marathon here! Episode 609: Emily Venters on Breaking 15 in the 5K and Her Half Marathon Debut

Today on the show, I’m joined by professional runner Emily Venters. Emily runs for Nike, lives and trains in Utah, and is coached by her college coach Kyle Kepler. This past year was a breakout season for her—her first full year as a pro—and she’s been on an incredible trajectory ever since. Emily made her half marathon debut in Houston, running 68:48 and placing seventh, even after taking a hard fall at the start of the race. She followed that up with a fifth-place finish at the U.S. Half Marathon Championships and broke 15 minutes in the indoor 5K—something that had been a longtime goal of hers. Last fall, she placed second at the Road 5K Championships and won the Sound Running Cross Country Championships. Emily’s collegiate career included time at Boise State, the University of Colorado, and the University of Utah. She’s about to start nursing school while continuing to train and race at a high level, and she thrives with a full plate. In this episode, we talk about her move up to the half marathon, when she might make the jump to the full marathon, and what it’s been like adjusting to life as a professional athlete. We also dive into her support system growing up, including the role her parents played in her journey to becoming a pro. I loved getting to know Emily—her energy, determination, and humility really shine through in this conversation. She’ll be racing at the USATF 5K Championships in Indianapolis, and I can’t wait to see how she does. What we talked about: 4:00- Starting nursing school 6:55- Emily’s half marathon debut 12:30- The decision to focus on one event going forward 19:20- Her mental health over the past few years 26:20- Her college career and professional career so far 44:00- Her nursing career goals 47:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: Silo on Apple TV Severence Connect with Lindsey:  Lindsey on Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/lindseyhein626/?hl=en] Lindsey on Twitter [https://twitter.com/LindseyHein] Support our sponsors: Cornbread [https://www.cornbreadhemp.com/pages/another?discount=ANOTHER] Use the code “Another” at checkout for 20% off your order Maui Nui [http://mauinuivenison.com/lindsey] Go to mauinuivenison.com/lindsey [http://mauinuivenison.com/lindsey] Anderson Maple [http://andersonmaple.com] Go to andersonmaple.com [http://andersonmaple.com] and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off Check out Lindsey Hein’s training plans HERE [https://lindseyhein.com/product-category/running-training-plans/]!

Episode 608: Meet the Hosts of Miles with Moms — A Podcast for Moms Who Run, by Moms Who Run; Now Part of the Sandyboy Productions Podcast Network

Welcome back to the Behind the Mic series on I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein! Today’s episode is especially fun because I’m introducing you to a brand-new show that’s officially joined the SandyBoy Productions Podcast Network—Miles with Moms! This podcast is for moms who run, by moms who run, and it’s all about making sure mother runners never feel alone—on the run or in motherhood. The show is hosted by four amazing women: Whitney Heins, Shanna Burchett, Tricia Denardis, and Olivia Garcia—all incredibly fast, inspiring, and relatable moms who are living the running-mom life right alongside us. Whitney is the founder of The Mother Runners, a VDOT-certified coach, and a 2:54 marathoner who ran both her marathon and 1:20 half PRs in her 40s. Shanna, known as @motherhood_running on Instagram with over 120,000 followers, is a mom of six and ran a 2:44 marathon after returning to the sport in 2022 following an 11-year break. Tricia is a mom of three and a pelvic floor physical therapist who now focuses on ultras. And Olivia, a mom of two and former paramedic, has chopped over an hour off her marathon time—running a 2:57. In this episode, I introduce each host and give you a behind-the-scenes look at how Miles with Moms came to life. You can find links to all four hosts’ Instagram handles and learn more about the podcast at sandyboyproductions.com [https://sandyboyproductions.com/] under the Miles with Moms tab. Let’s give these amazing women a warm welcome to the network, and I hope you’ll check out their show. I’m so excited to have them on board—and can’t wait for what’s ahead! Episode 607: Charlotte Purdue on Overcoming Setbacks in the Olympic Year and Preparing for London

Today on the show, I’m excited to welcome back Charlotte Purdue! Charlotte is a professional runner from Great Britain who now runs for Puma, and this is actually her third time joining the podcast. She was first on in Episode 190 after becoming the third-fastest British female marathoner ever at the time, running 2:25 at the London Marathon. Then, in Episode 382, she came back after finishing ninth at the 2022 Boston Marathon. Since then, Charlotte has continued to make huge strides in her career, lowering her marathon personal best to 2:22 at the Berlin Marathon. She earned a spot on the British team for the Paris Olympics—a dream years in the making. Unfortunately, just a couple of weeks before the Games, she rolled her ankle and had to make the heartbreaking decision to withdraw. I still remember seeing her announcement and feeling so sad for her. In this conversation, Charlotte shares how she bounced back from that disappointment, what her recovery looked like (including getting a new puppy to lift her spirits!), and the new perspective she’s carrying into this next season. She’s running the London Marathon this weekend—her second race since returning from injury—and I can’t wait to see how she does. Charlotte has such a grounded, positive mindset about running and life, and it was so great to catch up with her. Thanks so much for tuning in—please enjoy my conversation with Charlotte Purdue! What we talked about:  4:35- Catching up with Charlotte 11:10- Charlotte’s heartbreak with the Olympics 19:50- Her comeback after injury and getting back to racing 23:25- Goals for the London Marathon 27:30- Being sponsored by Puma 43:00- Last thoughts ahead of the London Marathon Show notes: Fourth Wing Connect with Lindsey:  Lindsey on Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/lindseyhein626/?hl=en] Lindsey on Twitter [https://twitter.com/LindseyHein] Support our sponsors: Previnex [http://previnex.com/] Use code “LindseySuperfoods” for 15% off if you purchase the Gut and Greens Superfood Use the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus Anderson Maple [http://andersonmaple.com] Go to andersonmaple.com [http://andersonmaple.com] and use the code “Fuel20” for 20% off Register for the Bayshore Marathon at bayshoremarathon.org [https://www.bayshoremarathon.org] Indy Mini [http://indymini.com] Go to indymini.com to learn more! Episode 606: Behind the Mic Jonathan Levitt of For the Long Run Podcast

Welcome back to this special Behind the Mic series on I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein, where I’m interviewing fellow podcasters and running media voices that I love listening to. Today’s guest is Jonathan Levitt, host of the For the Long Run podcast. If you’re already a listener of his show, you know it’s all about exploring the why—what keeps athletes going and how they keep growing, both in sport and in life. Jonathan’s had on some of the best in the sport, and his podcast dives into the connection between running, mindset, and life beyond the finish line. Jonathan and I have been friends in this industry for a long time. He’s been consistently encouraging, helpful, and supportive—and I have to give him a big shoutout for helping make this series happen. He even hustled to bring Boulderthon on board as a sponsor, and is personally sponsoring a few episodes through For the Long Run as well. So if you’re loving this series, you can thank him for that! In this episode, we talk about his own running journey, including what it meant to him to break three hours in the marathon—and even what it didn’t mean. He actually helped me work through some of my own feelings around that goal, and I think his perspective will resonate with a lot of listeners. We also get into the podcasting business, lessons from years in this space, and how he’s approached his work with InsideTracker and other ventures. Jonathan lives in Boulder, Colorado, and will be at Boulderthon this fall—along with some of your other favorite names in the running and podcast world. I hope you enjoy this conversation and come away with a little inspiration and insight into what keeps runners, and creators, going strong. All right, friends—please enjoy my conversation with Jonathan Levitt. What we talked about: 6:30- Catching up with Jon 7:30- His goals to have adventures with running throughout the summer 9:25- Marathoning history 24:25- His career in the podcasting space and beyond 37:00-  Jon’s experience with ADHD and finding it to be a superpower 53:00- Jon’s podcast, For the Long Run 59:00- End of podcast questions Show notes: North: Finding My Way While Running the Appalachian Trail Parks and Rec Never Enough: From Barista to Billionaire Connect with Lindsey:  Lindsey on Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/lindseyhein626/?hl=en] Lindsey on Twitter [https://twitter.com/LindseyHein] Support our sponsors: I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein LIVE! at Bottleworks [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ill-have-another-with-lindsey-hein-live-at-bottleworks-tickets-1203791816729] Boulderthon [http://Boulderthon.org] Use the code “hein20” for $20 off the marathon or half marathon Go listen to For the Long Run Podcast wherever you get your podcasts or at forthelong.run [https://forthelong.run]
