Fun facts  * Lake Isabella is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern California. * It sits right where the Kern River comes out of the Sierra Nevada mountains. * The lake was created in the 1950s when the Isabella Dam was built for flood control. * The area is famous for rafting, fishing, and motorcycle rides through the Kern River Canyon. * The ride on Highway 178 is considered one of the best scenic rides in California. Motorcycle ride difficulty rating / road classification system. Used for twisty roads, mountain rides, and sport riding. * Easy road – straight, wide, low traffic * Moderate – curves, hills, some tight turns * Technical – sharp turns, elevation changes * Extreme / expert – tight switchbacks, steep grades, rough surface   Our ride was rated Intermediate–Advanced * Tight switchbacks * Steep grades * Limited shoulder space * Rural road with little margin for error * Remote area with fewer services
