Trubaitsi: wetland spirits and night spirits in a Ukrainian village

Our Kupala Brighton [https://kupalabrighton.org/] project was inspired by the Ukrainian Kupala midsummer festivals held in Brighton since 2022, and by the landscape around Trubaitsi, a village in the middle of Ukraine. In August 2025 we made the journey from Brighton to Trubaitsi, where we walked and talked on the edge of the wetlands: about nature, the village, childhood, imagination, belonging, spirits, and the sounds of war in the air.
