Descripción

When researching and applying for graduate school and other professional programs, it can be easy to get lost in the details like required prerequisites, GPA's and test scores and this can lead students down the path of narrowly defining themselves. In this episode, we will talk with two campus experts, Dr. Tiffany Akins and Chair Sondra Reynalds, who review grad school applications and understand the importance of developing the whole student. They will walk us through practical tips  to help you become a well-rounded individual ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of graduate education.

Having Hard Conversations

In our episode on Communication Beyond Text Messages, we solidify the importance of all School of Health Sciences and Wellness students being able to develop and deploy effective communication in everyday situations but what do you do when a conversation is particularly hard or difficult? What do you do when you have to deliver information the other party might not want to hear or what if you disagree and need to state your perspective? Whether it's discussing grades with professors, giving constructive feedback, or being vulnerable when you need to ask for help, it is understood that these conversations can be challenging but what is often missed, is how rewarding they can also be. They give us opportunities to stretch and expand our skills and to develop deeper understanding and deeper relationships and to help us practice skills that will help us in our future careers. Today, our guest, Assistant Dean Julia Fischer, will help us explore strategies to approach difficult discussions with confidence, empathy, and clarity. You will leave knowing how to navigate these interactions, build stronger relationships, and create a supportive environment for yourself and others.

What I wish I knew to help balance life's obligations with preparing to be a professional, A student panel

The School of Health Sciences and Wellness is unique in that many of our programs are pre-professional, and our students go on to further graduate school or additional certification or training. This means students feel the weight of regular undergraduate course work while also having to navigate building a resume and portfolio of experiences that will help launch them into further programming and education. Balancing rigorous coursework while preparing for graduate school can feel overwhelming and daunting but there are real and practical steps students can take to make this time one that feels expansive rather than overwhelming. In this episode, three UW-SP Graduate students tell us their success stories. You will leave with more information on how to make this challenging transition a little bit smoother and some practical steps you can take to help take charge of your transition to grad school.
