From Surgery to Recovery: Experts Behind Kidney Transplants

Join us as we discuss kidney transplantation with Dr. William C. Goggins and Mary Taber, RN, BSN, from IU Health. Dr. Goggins, surgical director of IU Health’s kidney transplant program, leads one of the nation’s top programs, performing over 250 transplants annually. With expertise in complex cases, he’s completed over 3,000 kidney transplants, including a groundbreaking procedure in 2024 using warm normothermic preservation, a national first. A professor at Indiana University School of Medicine, he’s been recognized by the Indiana Donor Network and National Kidney Foundation. Mary Taber, a clinical transplant coordinator at IU Health, has been a vital part of the transplant team since 2015, bringing her experience from medical/surgical nursing to support post-kidney transplant patients. Tune in to hear their insights on advancing transplant care!

Kidney Disease and Catching it Early

In my first episode we discuss Kidney Disease and early detection. I'm joined by Dr. Asif Sharfuddin. Dr. Sharfuddin is the medical director of the IU Health kidney transplant program [https://iuhealth.org/find-medical-services/kidney-transplant] which performs more than 250 kidney and kidney/pancreas transplants on average annually and is the largest kidney transplant program in Indiana. Under Dr. Sharfuddin’s leadership, the kidney transplant program continues to expand treatment options for patients, including those who require desensitization therapies, are HIV positive, are Hepatitis C positive, or have been considered ineligible at other transplant centers. He also directs the living kidney donation program [https://iuhealth.org/find-medical-services/living-kidney-donation] at IU Health.
