Podcast de Robert Cox, MA, LPC | Therapist/Coach | Addictions Recovery | Trauma recove
Mindful Recovery is a podcast devoted to helping individuals who are struggling with trauma and addictions. Mindfulness is a research-based method for dealing with anxiety and trauma. Psychological and neuroscience studies have found that it is possible to increase the growth of neuronal pathways and retrain our brains in coping with these issues. Basic techniques like learning to pay attention to our own breathing and looking honestly and non-judgmentally at our broken spaces can begin to create an emotional holding space that allows us to live without reacting to the pain and begin deciding how we want to act on the world we find ourselves in. This becomes the beginning of recovery and, thus, the beginning of a new and abundant life in recovery. Whether you struggle with anxiety, mental illness, complex trauma, PTSD, addictions or a multitude of other problems, becoming mindful is the first step along that path. Here we provide practice, education and support in beginning your journey to healing. In returning to this podcast as of 2/1/25 officially I am still devoted to emotional regulation teaching through mindfulness and am looking forward to sharing the latest research in neuroscience especially concerning trauma and the brain. We will also be having open discussions on this show, that will require courage and decency. This podcast may stir things in you at times and I recommend that if that happens you consider therapy seriously. In today's world we seem to be navigating (many if not most of us) out of a fear response. Avoidance of percieved (or acutally felt) pain may be our major motivation. Unfortunately, when this is our decision making process we have no advantage over the earthworm. In this episode we practice developing compassion, for self and for others. Even those we heartily disagree with. We will dive into compassion practice in short form and find that healing can be had when we release fear and move into a state of curious compassion. Come join me on the journey inward and a peek into future episodes.

These are some of the questions we dig into this week on the Mindful Recovery Podcast along with a freebie meditation offer when you join our Facebook group!! We deep dive into the wounds and fears that prevent us from taking our own care seriously while trying to keep everyone around us happy.

This week Mason Lumpkins returns to discuss the final 3 stages of change. What does it mean to be ready to take action? Once I am in the action stage of recovery how do I stay there and prevent lapse or relapse? What is the difference between lapse and relapse? Is relapse inevitable and how do I get back? All of this and more on this week's episode of Mindful Recovery.
