This week marks a turning point in our series: how do we actually begin to understand these laws? Because when we read passages like these, they can feel strange, archaic, even unsettling. And some leave you wondering what to do with them at all. Part of the challenge is the word itself. We call it “law”—but that word carries assumptions. It makes us think of modern legal systems: precise, exhaustive, and meant to be applied the same way in every situation. But that’s not how the law of the Old Testament actually works.
